Career & Technical Education at Henrico’s College and Career Night

A terrific crowd of parents and students made it out to this year’s College and Career night. Both were able to visit with and talk to representatives of over 150 colleges and businesses. Both groups were able to talk about how they can help make students’ futures bright with continuing education and how they can move to the world of work. CTE was able to promote our over 150 CTE and ACE Center programs that get students Life Ready and college and career ready. Click here to see more photos of the event.

The CTE Big Red Bus was at this year’s Mission Tomorrow

CTE will be at Chamber RVA’s Mission Tomorrow on October 18th and 19th. Mission Tomorrow is the Richmond region’s interactive career exploration event for students.

Here is an excerpt from their website. ” Through an interactive series of activities and discussions with employers, Mission Tomorrow will encourage students to explore career interests and in-demand jobs from over 140 businesses in our region.
Students also will gain a better understanding of what it means to be prepared for a job and be exposed to various career and technical education resources within their localities.”

Henrico CTE will have our famous BIG RED BUS at Mission Tomorrow profiling the importance of career and technical education to today’s students. CTE is important because of our work getting our students “LIFE READY”. We hope to see you there.

Letter of Intent Signing Day

The purpose of the CTE Letter of Intent Signing Day is to celebrate students who are entering the workforce after graduation. Many students and athletes have received accolades for achieving their goal of being accepted into the college of their choice. As part of the Enrolled or Enlisted or Employed Initiative the leadership of Henrico CTE decided that students entering the workforce with benefits that include, but not limited to, great pay, health benefits, retirement benefits, and even receiving continuing education benefits from their employer also deserve recognition.

Henrico CTE has provided career training for these students and local businesses have recognized the benefits of hiring our students right out of high school and are excited to see them grow with their businesses over the coming years. The CTE Signing Day has brought our students, teachers and many of Virginia’s businesses together to fill the many high paying jobs that require certified skills. We hope in years to come our event will become even bigger and become an example of what is great about a CTE education.

Teen Summer Fire Academy

The Teen Summer Fire Academy is available to students at Wilder, Brookland, and Fairfield Middle Schools. CTE teamed up with the Henrico Fire Academy over 5 years ago to teach students discipline and leadership skills they might not be getting elsewhere. For 4 weeks during each summer a mostly new group of Wilder students get physical training and team building skills like adults receive at Henrico Fire Academy and maybe one day some of these very students could become firefighters.  CTE is helping students grow with many different programs from middle school through their high school graduation.

Summer Building Trades

The Henrico CTE Summer Building Trades program  is a 6 week program that teaches students about many of the traditional trades like carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electricity and HVAC. One of the most important aspects of this program is that the students are learning while actually building a house. This summer program is part of Henrico CTE’s and the Henrico County Vocational/Technical Education Foundation’s House Building Project. The HCVTEF manages and funds this program so that our students are able to get real world training in the traditional trades that are in high demand in today’s marketplace.
