State Course Title: Graphic Imaging Technology

The Graphic Communications program is designed to introduce the student to the world of graphic design, printing and related fields. Students learn to develop techniques to manage and control production printing using 21st –century skills. They develop skills in digital composition; wide-format printing; digital printing; and collating/binding operations, and sublimation. Student design and produce graphics for flyers, brochures, t-shirts, sweatshirts, mugs and buttons etc., using various processes, including vinyl, sublimation and digital printing. Students also learn color theory and graphic design through working with tie-dye and Adobe software.
In the second-year course, students use knowledge gained in the Graphics I class to complete more complex projects, and to specialize in areas of prime interest. Students are given the opportunity to run large print jobs using the latest digital printing equipment. The class is run as a business, producing items such as banners and other printed materials for schools and various county departments. With approval and recommendation from their teacher, students may spend time in actual work experience with a graphic design company during the second semester.

The Graphics Communications program featuring a Bravo embroidery machine, Brother Digital Garment f0ur color printer and state-of-the-art printing capabilities. We are PrintED certified national accreditation program, administered by the Graphic Arts Education and Research Foundation (GAERF). This certification is based on industry standards and is appropriate for secondary and post-secondary schools offering a graphic communications curriculum.
We serve students from all Henrico County high schools (juniors and seniors) and fill orders for anything from class t-shirts, banners, copies to special-order mugs.
