State Course Title: Precision Machining Technology

Precision Machining Technology introduces the student to the world of machining technology. Students learn how to properly layout and produce projects through a combination of lecture and hands on instruction. The safe use and operation of the drill press, lathe, and surface grinders is emphasized during the first year. Precision Machining Technology I is a dual enrollment course with John Tyler Community College. JTCC courses are Machine Shop Practices I and Machine Shop Practices  II. Upon successful completion, students earn 6 college credits. If you were taking this class at JTCC your cost would be $136 per credit hour for in state students. Taking these classes through CTE is free to the student. This is a $816 saving to the student.

In the second year class, the student continues to develop the fundamentals of machining skills learned during the first year and is introduced to the milling machine and the basics of CNC or computer numerical control. With approval and recommendation of the teacher, students may spend time in actual work experiences in a machining company during the second semester. Precision Machining Technology II is a dual enrollment course with John Tyler Community College. JTCC courses are Machine Shop Practices III and Machine Shop Practices  IV. Upon successful completion, students earn 6 college credits. If you were taking this class at JTCC your cost would be $136 per credit hour for in state students. Taking these classes through CTE is free to the student. This is a $816 saving to the student.

Students have the opportunity to become certified in the following field(s)

  • Measurement, Materials and Safety

Cost to take the certification test is $35 with a one time registration fee of $40 but is paid for by Henrico County Public Schools.
