Hands-On Learning For ACE Students

Working side by side with technicians from Johnny on the Spot these students volunteered to learn skills outside of the classroom even though school is almost out! These students are dedicated and ready to learn as much as they can while in high school. This is what a CTE education looks like.

Living Lab Created For Students

DSC01226Students from several high schools visited a roof replacement project at the West End Manor Civic Association Community Center to experience career opportunities in the roofing industry.  Adriana Atehortua, branch manager of ABC Supply was there to speak to students as well as Heather Greenwell of the Virginia Association of Roofing Professionals. Scott Shufflebarger, President of Hertless Brothers Roofing, Inc was also there, and he and his crew talked to students about roofing and the career opportunities in the industry.  As part of the experience, students were able to visit the roof of the community center and see exactly how a roof replacement is done on the 7,200 square foot building. All these companies and organizations including Scaffolding Solutions wanted to create a living laboratory for students to learn about the roofing industry. All materials and labor were donated for this project which brought students together with industry professionals. Click here for photos.
