Our Playhouse Has A New Home

dsc00146Our ACE Center at Highland Springs Carpentry and CAD students designed and built a castle playhouse for the CASA for Children organization. It was one of 5 playhouses built by different contractors for CASA’s “Home for Good” event. Well, the playhouses have been auctioned off and the winners now have their new playhouses. CASA just announced that they were able to raise $95,000 from the playhouse auction. It was an amazing experience for our students as well as our Department of Workforce & Career Development family. Please have a look at a video that was recently sent to us from CASA. Click here for the video.

Busy Day At Regency Project

DSC00348Various ACE Center trade students at the Regency Project are working to eventually turn storefronts into classrooms. Right now, students are removing store fixtures left behind when each DSC00364store was closed. The electricity students are checking for any electrical problems and making sure all the panel boxes are properly marked and that all breakers are functioning.

DSC00335We had a visit to our project site by Jeff Lewis, Vice President of Inspections with VSC Fire & Security Inc., and Bob Beckwith, President of United Sprinkler CO., Inc to talk about how they might be able to bring their expertise to this project.

To give you an idea of how things looks a couple weeks ago.

Interview skills are learned and experience is a great way to improve them as are resume writing skills which are also taught.

ABR Students Prepping Truck for Paint

ACE Center Auto Body Repair students are taping and prepping a truck for painting. Later their job is to remove the tape and paper and then get ready to pinstripe the truck and clean it up.  You should consider Career & Technical Education as part of your education plan. Talk to your parents, your friends, and your counselor to find out what’s right for you. Auto Body Repair link.
