Henrico CTE is recognizing students hard work and the value of the career-preparation training they’ve received through Henrico Schools’ Career and Technical Education program. Our “Letter of Intent Signing Day” brought together students, parents, county officials and the press to show our students how important it is to enter the workforce and start their careers. Students in Mr. Stacey’s Engineering Drawing/CAD class at Glen Allen High School work on the construction of a CNC milling machine. Many of the parts for the CNC Milling Machine were made by the students using 3D printed parts and using other hand-made parts. Click here for video. 04/12/2018


CS for ES (Computer Science for Elementary Students) is a collaborative, interactive outreach event hosted by HCPS middle school business education teachers and their students.   The goal of CS for ES is to introduce fourth and fifth grade students to computer science through a brief educational presentation followed by tactile interaction with computer science tools such as spheros, coding and unplugged CS activities.   Select Henrico County elementary schools, surrounding private schools, and members of the home school community attended CS for ES on Tuesday, March 27, 2018. Alpha Dog Club provided scholarships for 25 of my Vet 2 students to become certified in Pet First Aid. This is a state-recognized certification from the Office of the Virginia State Veterinarian and the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services. All 25 became certified this evening. Cosmetology and Barbering students at the ACE Center @Hermitage provided free haircuts for homeless individuals at the Homeless Connect event at the Richmond Convention Center. Maya Jordan attended the Jobs for Virginia Graduates board meeting. Maya Jordan was a former student at the Academy at Virginia Randolph. Maya graduated from AVR in 2012 and Virginia Union University in 2016. While at AVR she was a business student and participated in JVG (President for 2 years), SkillsUSA (District winner and competed at state competition), and SCA. She is currently working 2 jobs and preparing to take the LSAT in December. She will hopefully be attending law school in the fall of 2018. Maya spoke to the JVG board about her experiences at AVR and how we prepared her for college and the world beyond. 2016/2017 School Year

Henrico County Public School Students participate in the  Teen Summer Fire Academy (TSFA). The TSFA is designed to offer a chance for the area’s rising high-school freshmen to experience the culture of the Henrico County Fire Department. Instruction places an emphasis on teamwork, fire suppression skills, core values, understanding the mission of the Henrico County Division of Fire, physical fitness, and socialization through meals and team-building opportunities.
